Vera Austin is the primary editor of my series of books, The Draco Twins, geared toward helping children to understand differences not as disabilities but as abilities. There are five books in the series and each deals with a separate problem children experience in life. Vera Austin also edited my book on parenting an autistic child from childhood to adulthood in an era known as the “dark ages” of autism. I felt a need to reach out to others experiencing ignorance and misinformation regarding autism and wanted to share my experiences as a mother, educator and school psychologist.
Working with an editor was a new experience for me. Vera takes the time to understand what I want to convey to my readers. She takes it personally, helping me to organize my thoughts so my readers understand the importance of my message. Perhaps most importantly, she edits in “my voice,” careful to reflect my writing patterns in her editing. Through her editing comments and questions, she assists me in developing an organized flow to my writing and to create MY book in MY voice. Vera will continue to edit any and every book I write.
